4 Steps to an Affordable Beach Wedding

The warm weather the past few weeks is just a taste of what’s to come this summer. Yes, people view the sunshine as an invitation to hit the sandy shores and soak up some rays. But, the beach is not only used for lounging and playing —it’s also a very popular wedding venue. Pssst….and it’s inexpensive too.

If you’re a bride or groom planning on saying “I do” on the sand, here are some beach wedding ideas that will not only make your special day memorable, but will save you ooodles of money too.

1) Provide memorable, not expensive, wedding favors. Many people think they need to spend a ton to give their guests something they will enjoy as a “thank you” for attending their wedding. It’s not about how much you spend, it’s about the uniqueness of the gift you give. Some unique gift ideas for a beach-inspired wedding include nautical nametags for drink glasses, white flip flops ($1 store), mint filled shells, branded beach balls, or cool sun glasses for all.

2) Don’t overdo the decorations. Sometimes, less is more- especially if your wedding venue is a beautiful natural landscape. Doing too much with decorations can detract from the scenery if you’re not careful.

3) Provide half the amount of chairs for the wedding ceremony if your ceremony will be 30-minutes or less. Not everyone has to sit down for a sweet ceremony. Provide enough chairs for elderly guests or those with back problems and your good to go. In fact, many people rather stand to get a great view of the groom kissing the bride.

4) Try an appetizer bar instead of a sit-down meal: If your budget is tight don’t be afraid to venture outside the box. A beach reception is often more informal than a ballroom or reception hall, and the food and ambiance should match. Try having a diversified appetizer bar with dishes like crab cakes, tri-tip tacos, cheese and fruit, stuffed figs…a selection big enough to satisfy [most guests] and, most importantly, you!

Beach Butlerz is also happy to help with weddings, and can provide amazingly memorable and affordable options that take the stress out of planning a wedding. Check out pictures of weddings we have provided in the past on our website and don’t hesitate to call us to ask more questions.

Cheers!

Happy Trails in the Happiest Town

The increasingly warmer temperatures Central California will be experiencing  this weekend (80 degrees in Avila?!) serve as a reminder that beach (and bikini!) season is just around the corner. Those warmer temperatures also encourage residents and visitors to spend more time outside being active (and tone up before summer gets here!).

If you’re like us here at BeachButlerz, we love finding new hiking trails and bike routes to whip us into shape. Below we have shared some of our favorite local routes. If you’re favorite trail isn’t listed below then please share it with us! Happy [outdoor] exercising!

1) The Bob Jones Trail: this is a great option for people of all fitness levels and ages. You can run, walk, bike or roller blade on a serene, secluded path all the way to Avila Beach.

2) Bishop Peak: If you live in SLO you’ve certainly heard of Bishop’s Peak before. This hike can be strenuous, so be prepared to sweat and workout if you attempt it. Once you get to the top, though, the view is worth the pain.

3) Valencia Peak: Montana de Oro is a gem hidden on the Central Coast, and it boasts some of the most beautiful trails in this area. The hike is a total of 5 miles round trip, but the view from the top offers panoramic views of the coastline and state park. A must try for anyone who has the time.

Enjoy the view.

Cal Poly Wine Fest Celebration

Spring has sprung (though right now you wouldn’t know it on the Central Coast). There is a light at the end of this tunnel of rain, and it promises to bring sunshine and beautiful weather to all Central Coast inhabitants.

Many clubs and organizations take advantage of this wonderful California weather when coordinating fundraising activities and festivals. Every spring a favorite event of Beach Butlerz comes to the area- the Cal Poly Wine Festival.

The Cal Poly Wine Festival promises to provide a delightful afternoon for everyone- whether you’re a wine professional, a social taster or a wine newbie. The event will be held this year on April 8 and 9 at Margarita Vineyards in Santa Margarita. All proceeds from the event benefit the Wine and Viticulture program at Cal Poly.

For 2011 the festival will focus on the theme “trends and tasting.” On April 8 seminars will be held focusing on topics related to such (i.e. Trending M

illennials: Understanding the interaction between media and the next generation of wine drinker), and will conclude with a BBQ and live auction held at the Leaning Pine Arboretum on the Cal Poly campus. Beach Butlerz donated a Sunset Beach Bonfire to the live auction. We can’t wait to serve the lucky recipient of our services. On April 9 from 1-4 p.m. event participants will be invited to taste wine and food from various restaurants and wineries.

Everyone is invited to attend the event, but you must be 21+ to taste. For more information about the event visit the Cal Poly Wine Festival’s website or Facebook page. To purchase your tasting ticket, or to buy a package for the weekend, click here. Cheers!
